Hi, and welcome to Creations by Mayomay! My name is May, I have 3 children ages 19, 17, and 10 and I am married to my best friend. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and I have four brothers and four sisters. I have been a teacher for 18 years, working with children from Pre-K to 7th grade. When I am not in my classroom or performing mom or wife duties, you are more than likely to find me in my craft room.
I love arts, crafts and DIY projects. I love celebrating and decorating my home for all of the holidays. I love creating and adding things to make my house feel like a home. From the front door, to the dining table, and even the guest bathroom, you are sure to find holiday decor which I have either created or put together as a centerpiece for the room. My need to decorate for every holiday, month, or season has forced my husband to create extra shelves in our garage for storage. And although my husband would love to blame Pinterest, Hobby Lobby, and Joann Fabrics for our abundance of holiday storage bins, this is actually my mother’s fault.
My love for arts and crafts started when I was very little and my dad bought me my first Crayola carrying case of 60-plus crayons. I was in art club, chorus, drama, and I also took creative writing classes when I was younger. In 2009, after watching several commercials late at night for the Cricut Expression, my mother decided to buy it for me and I fell in love. I used the machine for anything and everything; cards, scrapbooking, bulletin board displays, etc. From there, my Cricut collection grew and continues to grow. Most of my craft projects are created using my Cricut machines.
In 2016, I opened my Etsy shop and began to sell some of my creations. My first listings were my mickey ears which came after several requests from friends, coworkers, and people I would meet at the Disney parks. The time I spent creating products for people kept me from falling into a deep, dark depression. What began as a little hobby, was bringing in a little extra money for my weekly Starbucks or Disney spending. I never really thought about trying to turn my small Etsy shop into a full-time business or income because I have a career as a teacher and I love working with children. My plan was just to craft, create and sell a few items so that I can enjoy a couple of White Chocolate Mochas on my way to work during the week.
A year ago, my husband began working to create the craft room of my dreams. Never in a million years did I think I would have a craft room; a room just for me to spend my late nights and days off. A room where I spend most of my time using my Cricut to make shirts for customers, my family and myself. A room where I can work with all the sequin, vinyl, and glitter and if there is a mess on the floor no one can punish me for it. A room than can store thousands of sheets of cardstock for all my scrapbook needs. A room with a sewing machine and glue gun easily accessible. A room that includes a Scrapbox storage and craft area as well as several heat-presses. A room where I can display my Disney popcorn buckets and my husband can’t complain. A room with pink-glitter walls that sparkle and make me feel like a princess. As you can probably tell, I am absolutely in love with my craft room, so much so, that the last few months all I do is dream about a career where I can spend more time in my craft room working on new craft projects.
My goal this year is to spend more time restocking my inventory, creating new items, create a website to sell my items, getting out of my comfort zone to create, edit, publish videos for my website and youtube, and lastly, I want to start a blog sharing my crafts, mom life, and wife life. I would love to share some crafts, projects, ideas, and my life experiences with you. I hope you follow along, get inspired, get crafty and share your experiences with me.
